For a child
Right now we are working on teaching a niece how to tell time and so far its going on. Now we are looking into getting her the very first "big kid watch". Neither of us are looking at kid styles but more of a way that she can appreciate the fascination we already have, to share our hobby. Thoughts?

I am certain she will end up picking it as a hobby after all. Perhaps you could get something that meets her preferences; like does she like them circular or rectangular in shape or in whatever color.

You wouldn't like getting her a watch that she will instantly frown at.

RE: For a child
I know many parents that opt for a digital watch before anything else, depending on the age you could have a watch theme too. Some kids get used to having a fancy watch for parties, church and school events - then of course the daily one which for some ends up being a cartoon character.

RE: For a child
Cartoon character can help the child to like the watch. I would also recommend that the child will start on a digital watch rather than an analogue watch. This way the child will learn to read the correct time.

That is actually what my mum ended up doing too, carton all the way. She adores it but she has already decided that every day she will push a random button to see what happens, lately I have been resetting it twice a day.

RE: For a child
Start them young with a good appreciation for a nice piece and it will grow with age. That is part of how my fascination began.

RE: For a child
The cartoon idea is a good one. I was at my aunt's the other day and I realized all that she had gotten gotten for her kid kind of suited him in a way. When I asked what she used to know his preferences, she just hinted to being observant and sensitive.

RE: For a child
I am taking time to teach my young son how to tell the time as well. I already got him two before but none is functioning as we speak. I think it is normal for kids to easily damage stuff until they attain a certain age.

RE: For a child
I remember a watch I was given when I was a child and it was a very colorful one. I was more interested in the design of the watch and not about reading time. That would be the same with children these days.

RE: For a child
The first watch I remember having was a pocket watch given to me from my father, who ended up getting it from his father when he finished schooling. It was not digital and to this day I still prefer anything other than digital. Maybe its due to the first one I received? Smile
