Yard Sales
Have you ever found a collectible watch at a yard sale? I look every time I'm at one, but usually the watches are cheap, in terrible shape, or both.

RE: Yard Sales
Have you tried looking at estate sales? I often find good vintage watches there. You have to be one of the first people to get to the estate sale because people often go for the jewelry boxes first. I prefer estate sales to yard sales because usually I find better stuff and it is in better condition too.

RE: Yard Sales
I agree about the estate sales. I've never found anything great at a yard sale, although I'm sure you can. Estate sales are really a great place to find antique jewelry.

RE: Yard Sales
I think that if the person had an antique watch of reasonable quality that they wouldn't be selling it at a yard sale. This being said, there is always a gem or two in the coal pile.

RE: Yard Sales
I didn't think about estate sales, but you are right. They do tend to have better stuff, so my chances would be much higher there than at a regular yard sale. Thanks!

RE: Yard Sales
I love to go to garage sales but I have never seen any vintage watches. I have never really seen any watches of any value actually now that I think of it.

RE: Yard Sales
Not a watch no but I have found other collectibles before. I have a great vintage reading lamp that I found a few years back. I also caught two paintings down about 70 years ago that a lady was selling so I snagged them, still waiting on an appraisal now.

RE: Yard Sales
Yes I have but none ever worked and one ended up costing too much to repair so I just kept it as a collectible that is in storage now. I hate the idea of spending a ton when its not actually needed to wear right now, maybe in a year or so I will change my mind.

RE: Yard Sales
Not even once before have I come across a vintage watch but several other collectibles are easy to spot. If you happen to be among to the first few in any yard or garage sale, then you stand a chance of having a greater variety to choose from.

RE: Yard Sales
I would guess one in five sales that I see, a decent watch might pop up. Maybe its just my area but most people are not willing to part with good watches especially if it ends up being a vintage one.
